Alan always had a penchant for fishing light lines and small hooks so when we said we were off to Furnace Lakes with its large head of Skimmers he thought it was his chance to prove his tactics. Trouble was this was a summer match and as such the warm weather prompted the Carp to feed. Yes you've guessed it he hooked what he described as a "lump" which would possibly be 20lb + Carp. Mindful of his 1.5lb hook length and no 18 hook he went about trying to land "old Moby Carp". Three hours and 20mins later the carp which had been at the net 4 times finally broke his hook length and they parted company. This left Alan 30mins left with which to salvage his match. Fair play to him though if he'd landed it he would possibly have framed.
